Mission: “Exposing the hidden clinical science within the carbon dioxide waveforms to enhance the safety of patients during anesthesia”

In United States, I have given visiting Professor grand rounds lecture at Massachusetts General Hospital and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston (both Harvard affiliated hospitals), Duke University Medical School, North Carolina, University Medical and Dental school of New Jersey, University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, Texas, Texas Society of Anesthesiologist’s conference, Houston and at Street level airway conference at Fort Worth, Texas. In addition, lectures were given at Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona and Mater Hospital in Dublin, Ireland. The theme of lectures in United States is: “There is much more in ‘Capnography’ than checking the placement of endotracheal tube – Exposing the hidden clinical science in the carbon dioxide waveforms.” A forthcoming visiting professorship is to Kuwait.

It is really gratifying to receive several emails from all over the world commending the value of this educational website to the medical community. Sometimes due to constraints of time, it is difficult to answer all the individual queries being raised. However, the answers to majority of the questions are available on the website. It is understandable that there could be a difficulty in finding the answer due to extensive information on the site. A ‘search option’ is a useful under these circumstances.

I frequently travel t o India and have given several lectures on ‘Capnography’. The primary theme of all my lectures have been to emphasize the urgency to mandate the use of capnography during every anesthetic. Furthermore, there is an urgent need to formulate and implement standards of monitoring during anesthesia on a national basis. The lectures have been at JIPMER, Pondicherry; Ramachandra Medical University Hospital, Chennai; All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, Axon Anesthesia Associates, Hyderabad, Indian Society of Anesthesiologists national conference at Coimbatoor. and more recently (October 2006) at Northeastern Mumbai Anesthesiologists conference (World Ether day celebrations), Mumbai.
