MicroRotor technology

As capnography establishes its rightful place for monitoring ventilation during sedation in many surgical and medical specialties,researches are continuing to explore newer methods of carbon dioxide measurement and monitoring. Recently, another newer method, ultra-compact MicroRotor technology, was introduced to measure CO2, nitrous oxide and the five anesthetic agents. The technology is used in either mainstream (35mm x 30mm x 27.5mm) or sidestream sensors (23mm x 64mm x 39 mm), using a 50mL/min flow rate, to monitor CO2 at breath rates up to 150 bpm.  The manufactures, who are incorporating this technology into their capnographs, also claim to decrease the nuisance of obstructions resulting from moisture and water condensate in the sampling lines.  They also claim that one of their new products, the 'Nomoline’, is a long-life (>2 weeks) filter line, which actually dissipates liquid water from within without the need for a water trap or frequent replacements of expensive sample lines.  For further details, the readers are referred to
